Historic Day for LIUNA

Tuesday November 5th was an historic day for LIUNA in Massachusetts. Two of our own were elected mayor's in cities here. In Boston Marty Walsh was elected mayor in the City of Boston. Marty is a card carrying member of Laborers' Local 223 in Dorchester. Also in Brockton Bill Carpenter member of a public employees union there was elected.These results send a clear message to the political pundits who say organized labor can no longer win the big elections. Congratulations Marty and Bill from the members of Laborers' Local 473.

Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station to close

It was announced on Tuesday August 27, that at the end of the current fuel cycle which spans through the end of 2014., Vermont Yankee will close. Laborers' Local 473 has been supplying manpower there since 1969.

Unistress Steel Works and DN Tanks form partnership

Unistress Steel Works and DN Tanks recently sign a contract for Steel Works to provide the rebar to help build the 2 Million Gallon Water tank in Pittsfield, MA. Unistress Steel works will also be bidding future DN Tanks projects in New England.

Senate Election June 25th

A reminder to all members and their families. Tuesday June 25, 2013 is the General election for the Special United States Senate race in Massachusetts.

Summer Safety Tips

As the weather begins to heat remember these few summer safety tips. Drink plenty of non caffeinated fluids, wear light colored loose fitting shirts and use sunscreen with at least a SPF factor of 15. Be safe.

Membership I.D. Cards

Over the next two weeks we will be processing your Membership I.D., L.P.L. and Dues Deduction into our M.T.P. system. After completion of this process we will be distributing your I.D. cards. Be proud of the fact that we had 77% participation for our local. This is the highest turnout for the locals so far. Those members who did not show for their assigned date will have to go to Hopkinton before December 31, 2013. A Union Membership Card and Photo I.D. Card will be mandatory to work on a construction site beginning on 1/1/2014.
